Mid-South Wrestling 5/7/1983

Taped 4/27/1983 at the Irish McNeil’s Boys Club in Shreveport, Louisiana. Aired on 5/7/1983.

Boyd Pearce and “Cowboy” Bill Watts are on commentary. Watts talks about Chavo Guerrero getting attacked by the Rat Pack (Ted DiBiase & Mr. Olympia) in Houston. Chavo was scheduled to wrestle Gran Markus who didn’t show up so DiBiase and Mr. Olympia challenged Chavo to a match. The fans picked DiBiase to wrestle Guerrero. It was later discovered that Ted DiBiase had hired someone with a Spanish accent to call in and pretend he was Gran Markus to the Houston office.

That’s then followed by a recap of last week’s situation with “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. They re-air Duggan’s statement about Ted DiBiase lying to him about aligning himself with Gen. Skandor Akbar. That’s then followed by Duggan attacking Nagasaki and Gen. Skandor Akbar. Watts then talks about Gen. Skandor Akbar wanting Ted DiBiase to get Duggan but DiBiase turns him down so Akbar gets Nagasaki to to his bidding due to Kamala being in Dallas.

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan vs. “The Black Ninja” Kendo Nagasaki

Hacksaw Duggan quickly attacks Kendo Nagasaki with some punches. Nagasaki is still wearing his gear. Ted DiBiase shows up and loads up his glove and punches Duggan. DiBiase, Akbar and Nagasaki stomp on Duggan and send him to the outside. Duggan wins via DQ.

WINNER: Hacksaw Duggan via DQ.

They air highlights of Chavo Guerrero vs. “Wild” Bill Irwin from the Superdome. Chavo gets Irwin with a short-armed scissor which Irwin counters by picking him up but Chavo is able to roll thru and keep the hold on Irwin. Irwin catches Chavo with a backbreaker and then stomps on him. Side slam by Irwin for a near fall. Irwin whips Chavo into the corner and charges at him but Guerrero moves out of the way and catches Irwin with a dropkick.

Guerrero with some punches and chops thrown at Irwin. He tosses irwin to the outside and then hits a tope suicida at him! Back in the ring, Irwin catches Guerero with a high kick. Chavo escapes Irwin’s grasp and gets him with a German suplex for the pin.

Boyd Pearce mentions King Kong Bundy is up next in action and brings up how Bundy claims to have brought a new hold to Mid-South Wrestling, The Atlantic City Avalanche. Pearce says it’s not true because it is a move that Watts use to use called the Stampeder.

King Kong Bundy promo about wanting to wrestle top-flight competition and said promoters finally got him some competition in the legend Mr. Wrestling II. He doesn’t think II’s knee can do anything to him because he has a 26-inch neck and can take plenty of shock. He tells Mr. Wrestling II that he’ll put him down for 5 or 10.

King Kong Bundy vs. Mr. Wrestling II

Crowd cheers Mr. Wrestling II as he tries to escape Bundy’s grasp by using his speed. They finally lock-up and Bundy gets II in the corner and beats on him with some forearms and punches. He uses the ropes on Mr. Wrestling II and chokes him. Bundy whips Mr. Wrestling II into the ropes but II counters with a couple of punches and gets him in a front facelock.

Bundy shoves Mr. Wrestling II into the corner. He picks Mr. Wrestling II up but II keeps the facelock on Bundy. Bundy frees himself by ramming II into the corner turnbuckles. More chops and elbows at Mr. Wrestling II. He lands a knee across II’s chest. Bundy whips II into the ropes and catches him with an elbow. Fans start to chant for “TWO! TWO! TWO!”. Mr. Wrestling II and Bundy exchange punches and forearms.

Mr. Wrestling II socks Bundy into the corner. Knee lift in the corner on Bundy. He goes for a second knee lift! II goes for a third knee lift and that finally knocks Bundy down to the mat! He goes for a fourth knee lift but Bundy trips him. Bundy goes for a splash but Mr. Wrestling II moves out of the way.

Mr. Wrestling II sets up for a fourth knee lift and gets Bundy but Bundy hits referee Alfred Neely and that sends Neely to the floor! Bundy reverses a whip into the corner but Mr. Wrestling II moves out of the way of a charging Bundy. Mr. Wrestling II is about to go after Bundy but Mr. Olympia runs in. Watts yells about Mr. Olympia having something on his boot. Mr. Olympia dropkicks Mr. Wrestling II and knocks him out. Bundy picks up Mr. Wrestling II and gets him with the Avalanche for the pin. Bundy tells the referee to count to FIVE! Bundy wins!

WINNER: King Kong Bundy

Ted DiBiase (w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar) vs. Tim Horner

Fans start to chant “Duggan” and that upsets DiBiase who heads to the outside to argue with the fans. He gets back in the ring and Horner gets DiBiase in a side headlock. They hit the ropes and DiBiase knocks Horner down. He punches Horner and then sends him head-first into the corner. Elbow at Horner’s head followed by a slam.

DiBiase stomps on Horner and then whips him into the ropes but Horner ducks and catches DiBiase with a pair of dropkicks. Horner with some armdrags on DiBiase. DiBiase rolls to the outside again. Fans cheer Horner on. DIBiase gets back into the ring. They lock-up and again Horner gets the advantage and gets DiBiase in an armbar.

Horner takes DiBiase down with a body tackle. DiBiase goes for a slam but Horner escapes. Horner moves out of the way of an elbow drop. DiBiase catches Horner with some punches. He whips Horner into the ropes and hits him with an elbow. Horner tries to fight back as the fans start to chant “Duggan” at DiBiase. Horner gets caught in the corner and whipped to the other side and gets back dropped.

DiBiase follows with a middle rope elbow at Horner. He follows with a running knee drop on Horner. Horner tries to fire back but DiBiase knocks him back down. DiBiase whips Horner into the ropes and gets caught by a forearm by Horner. Horner with a hiptoss out of the corner. He gets DiBiase with a dropkick and then sends him into the corner. DiBiase moves out of the way as Horner charged at him.

DiBiase hits Horner with an elbow off the ropes. He gets Horner with a backbreaker. DiBiase whips Horner into the ropes and catches him with a powerslam for the pin. DiBiase picks Horner up again. He whips Horner into the corner. Ted stomps on Horner and starts to choke him. He slams Horner’s head into the bottom turnbuckle.

DiBiase continues to beat on Horner. Hacksaw Duggan runs out with a 2 x 4 and hits DiBiase with it. He breaks it across DiBiase’s back! Crowd cheers Duggan as he leaves.

WINNER: Ted DiBiase

“Hacksaw” Duggan heads over to talk to Bill Watts and tells him he better believe he knocked out DiBiase. Duggan says he’s a proud man and vows to fight for what is right and that’s why he beat DiBiase and vows to get Akbar too.

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed & Tiger Conway Jr. vs. Don Clark & Ron Cheatham

Butch Reed takes down Ron Cheatham. He uses his athleticism and monkey flips Cheatham and catches him with a dropkick into an armbar. Reed tags in Conway Jr. who continues to beat on Cheatham. Conway Jr. takes down Cheatham and tags Reed back into the match. Reed continues to attack Cheatham’s legs.

Tiger Conway Jr. tags back in and lands a legdrop on Cheatham’s leg. Cheatham gets Conway Jr. on the ropes and elbows him. He gets Conway Jr. with some forearms but Conway Jr. tags in Reed. Reed whips Cheatham into the corner. Don Clark tags in. Reed punches away at Clark. Side headlock by Reed.

Reed tags in Conway Jr. and whips Clark into the ropes and Tiger dropkicks him. Conway Jr. slams Clark twice! He goes for a roll-up for a pin on Clark but Clark kicks out. Conway Jr. tags in Reed and Reed punches Clark in the mid-section. Reed quickly tags in Conway Jr. and he gets Clark with a body press. Cheatham gets in the ring to help his partner but accidentally stomps on Clark.

Butch Reed comes in and goes after Cheatham. Reed and Conway Jr. get their opponent with dropkicks. They then send their opponents crashing into each other. Cheathem gets sent to the outside. Conway Jr. backdrops Clark and tags in Reed who whips Clark into the ropes and catches him with a body tackle for the pin.

WINNERS: Butch Reed & Tiger Conway Jr.

Tony Zane vs. Ken Woodby

Tony Zane gets Ken Woodby on the ropes but breaks cleanly. Woodby gets Zane in aan armbar but that gets reversed. Some reversals early on. Zane gets in some forearms in the corner on Woodby but Woodby is able to send Zane into the corner and backdrops him. Woodby gets Zane back in an armbar.

Zane tries to break out of the armbar by slamming Woodby but Woodby holds onto the arm. They are near the ropes so Woodby’s forced to break the hold. Zane gets a near fall on Woodby. He starts to take control of the match and gets Woodby with a headlock. Zane starts to twist Woodby’s head. They get back up and hit the ropes with Zane kicking and dropping an elbow on Woodby to get the pin.

WINNER: Tony Zane

SHOW THOUGHTS: Okay episode with the big highlight being Ted DiBiase getting involved and attacking Hacksaw Jim Duggan after previously saying he would stay out of it. Best match on the show was King Kong Bundy vs. Mr. Wrestling II. DiBiase vs. Horner had some good moments but that was leading up to Duggan getting his revenge on DiBiase. Hacksaw Duggan also gave a good promo after he attacked DiBiase.
