Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling 8/7/1982

Taped 8/4/1982 at the WPCQ TV Studios in Charlotte, North Carolina. Aired on 8/7/1982.

Bob Caudle is on commentary. He’s joined by Wahoo McDaniel and Jack Brisco who congratulate Jack Brisco on winning the Mid-Atlantic Championship from Roddy Piper. He talks about how now he has to get back the $10,000 he lost to Piper. McDaniel mentions that he wants a match with Ric Flair.

They air a video sent in with a Ric Flair promo. He talks about being willing to share his wealth and he’s even been known to share a few of his ladies. Flair says he’s heading back home to Charlotte to take on anyone in the territory including McDaniel, Brisco, Steamboat and Roberts.

McDaniel says everyone he mentioned is looking forward to Flair returning because they all want a shot at the title. He warns Flair that there’s tough competition in Mid-Atlantic. Brisco agrees and says he’s held the world title two times and wouldn’t mind winning it again. McDaniel also talks about Jimmy Valiant winning the Mid-Atlantic TV title from Ivan Koloff.

Jack Brisco & Wahoo McDaniel vs. Ben Alexander & David Patterson

Jack Brisco and Ben Alexander start the match. Brisco goes for a cradle for a pin attempt but Alexander kicks out. Some good mat work from Brisco keeps Alexander on the mat. Brisco tags in McDaniel who promptly takes down Alexander for a pin attempt. Alexander reaches the ropes. Test of strength leads to McDaniel taking Alexander down with a wristlock. He drags Alexander away from his corner.

Jack Brisco tags back in and stomps on Alexander’s left arm. Fireman’s carry takedown by Brisco. He does it a few times as he keeps control of the match. Alexander with a knee and he tags in Patterson he lays in a few forearms on Brisco. Brisco catches Patterson with a body press off the ropes for a near fall. McDaniel tags back in and gets Patterson down with a side headlock.

Patterson tags in Alexander who stomps on McDaniel. He gets in a few shots on McDaniel. Alexander slams McDaniel but Wahoo kicks out of a pin attempt. More forearms but Wahoo fights back and knocks Alexander down. Brisco back in and he elbows Alexander. Snapmare followed by a knee and Brisco gets Alexander with a chinlock. Alexander tries to break out of the hold but has no luck. Wahoo tags back in and catches Alexander AND Patterson with chops. He follows with a slam on Alexander. Alexander tags in Patterson.

Wahoo McDaniel with a series of chops at Patterson. Brisco back in and he takes Patterson down with a double under hook suplex. He follows that up with a figure-four leglock for the submission win. McDaniel stops Alexander from making the save for his partner.

WINNERS: Jack Brisco & Wahoo McDaniel

“Bad Bad” Leroy Brown (w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink) vs. Ron Ritchie

Leroy Brown shoves Ron Ritchie to the mat off the ropes. He gets Ritchie on the ropes but breaks cleanly and applauds. Ritchie gets Brown with a side headlock but Brown whips him into the ropes and knocks him down with a shoulder block. Brown celebrates.

Ron Ritchie gets Brown with a side headlock again. Brown whips him into the ropes and again he knocks Ritchie down. Sir Oliver Humperdink joins Bob Caudle on commentary. Brown gets Ritchie with a side headlock. He hiptosses Ritchie and then chops away at Ritchie’s arm. He goes for another hiptoss. Ritchie fights back but Brown knocks him back down.

Brown chokes Ritchie on the ropes before snapping him off the top rope. Armbar by Brown and Ritchie tries to chop at him. Brown uses the ropes to continue to attack Ritchie’s left arm. Some hard chops thrown by Ritchie but Brown keeps him down with an armbar. Brown headbutts Ritchie a few times in the corner.

Ritchie fights back again out of the corner. Brown with another headbutt knocks Ritchie back down. Elbow off the ropes by Brown and he goes back to an armbar on Ritchie. Brown tosses Ritchie up in the air. Ritchie with a couple of kicks at Brown and he dropkicks him. Ritchie whips Brown into the ropes but Brown catches him with a kick. Brown follows that up with a running elbow drop for the pin.

WINNER: Leroy Brown

Pvt. Don Kernoodle and Pvt. Jim Nelson talk about being the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team champions. They both promise to keep the titles against any competition. Kernoodle says that Sgt. Slaughter did lose the U.S. title to Wahoo McDaniel and was suspended for 30 days due to snipping some of McDaniel’s hair.

Ivan Koloff does a promo talking about declaring war against all American wrestlers. He doesn’t care if he has to go against Jimmy Valiant, Tommy Rich, The Freebirds or the Superstar. He wants to destroy them and then dress them up. He holds up a dress.

Ricky Steamboat vs. Juan Reynosa

Ricky Steamboat takes down Juan Reynosa with a side headlock. Reynosa gets Steamboat in the corner and punches him a few times but Steamboat reverses a whip into the other corner. He catches Reynosa with a dropkick and then gets him back in a side headlock. Reynosa gets Steamboat on the ropes and then whips him but Steamboat uses his speed to again get him in a side headlock.

Reynosa gets back up and whips Steamboat into the ropes and gets caught with an elbow. He punches away at Steamboat. Big elbow by Reynosa rocks Steamboat. Steamboat chops away at Reynosa. He goes for a pin but Reynosa kicks out. Steamboat gets Reynosa in a chinlock. Reynosa gets up but Steamboat keeps the chinlock on and rides him piggyback. Reynosa sends Steamboat into the corner to break the hold.

Big knee from Reynosa at Steamboat. Steamboat with some headbutts takes down Reynosa. They both fall to the mat. Reynosa slams Steamboat but misses an elbow drop. Steamboat whips Reynosa into the ropes and catches him with a jumping knee. He climbs up to the top rope and hits a body press for the pin!

WINNER: Ricky Steamboat

Ricky Steamboat joins Bob Caudle and congratulates both Jack Brisco and Jimmy Valiant. He says things are starting to change and talks about Leroy Brown and The House of Humperdink and vows revenge.

Roddy Piper joins Bob Caudle and talks about getting hurt. He talks about how he’s never been to jail and doesn’t smoke like the kids nowadays. He says Jack Brisco should be proud of beating him for the title and vows to get back up. Sir Oliver Humperdink and Ivan Koloff join Roddy Piper.

Sir Oliver Humperdink tells Piper that maybe if he was in his corner and Piper was working for him, he wouldn’t have lost the title to Jack Brisco. Piper thinks that is possible. Humperdink offers Piper a contract but Piper throws it back. Humperdink doesn’t get upset because Piper’s been through a lot.

Sir Oliver Humperdink and Ivan Koloff talk about Jimmy Valiant “stealing” the Mid-Atlantic TV title from Koloff and that he used a chair on Koloff in that street fight. They talk about the next match Koloff has and how he has an advantage against him in a Russian Siberian Salt Mine (Coal Miner’s Glove) match.

King Parsons & Pork Chop Cash vs. Ali Bey & Ken Timbs

Pork Chop Cash and Ken Timbs start the match. Fast-paced start to the match with Cash catching Timbs with a hip attack. He takes Timbs down and Timbs accidentally goes to the wrong corner for a tag and gets punched by Parsons. Cash tags in Parsons who continues the attack on Timbs. He slams Timbs and goes for a pin but Timbs kicks out.

Parsons tags Cash back in and they each go for a wristlock. Timbs fights back but Cash knocks him down to the mat and gets him in an armbar. Parsons back in but Timbs fights back and tags in Ali Bey who gets Parsons in a bear hug. He slams Parsons into Timbs knee and Timbs is back in. Russian leg sweep by Timbs. He tags Ali Bey back in and he continues to attack Parsons.

Parsons headbutts Ali Bey and then punches him in the mid-section. Knee lift by Parsons and he tags in Pork Chop Cash. Cash with a dropkick off the ropes followed by a knee drop. Ali Bey catches Cash with a knee and tags in Timbs. Timbs goes for a pin on Cash but Pork Chop kicks out. They go back and forth attacking each other until Cash tags in Parsons.

Parsons with some elbows and headbutts at Timbs. Timbs tags in Ali Bey. Ali Bey with a bear hug again on Parsons. Parsons fights out of it and tags in Cash. Some hard right hands thrown by Cash. Bear hug by Ali Bey on Cash and he whips Cash into the ropes and hits him with a hard chop. He follows with a running stomp but Cash moves out of the way and tags in Parsons.

King Parsons knocks down Ali Bey who tags in Timbs. Timbs catches Parsons with a finger to the throat. He chokes him near his corner and tags in Ali Bey who whips Parsons into the ropes and punches him. Parsons tags in Cash who gets in some shots at Bey and then tags Parsons back in who slams Ali Bey. He follows with a pair of dropkicks and coveres him for the pin. Cash stops Timbs from making the save.

WINNERS: King Parsons & Pork Chop Cash

Mike Rotundo promo saying hello to the fans in Charleston and mentions that there has been a lot going on in the Mid-Atlantic territory. He brings up how Paul Jones attacked Jack Brisco. Rotundo mentions that while he was traveling with Jones recently he noticed that he was reading a lot of self-help books and thinks that what he read turned Jones.

Jay Youngblood promo and he agrees with Mike Rotundo about how Paul Jones has turned for money. He says this is the second time because he did it in the past when he joined Baron Von Raschke against him and Steamboat. He says that he’ll never trust Paul Jones again. Youngblood also vows to take out the House of Humperdink.

Jay Youngblood & Tim Horner vs. Matt Borne & The Ninja (w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink)

Matt Borne attacks Jay Youngblood right as the bell rings. Youngblood chops Borne around the ring. He tags in Horner who cotninues to beat on Borne. Borne rakes the eyes and punches Horner. He tosses Horner into the turnbuckles. Big knee at Horner’s head and then he whips him into the corner and back tosses him. Suplex by Borne. He tags in the Ninja.

The Ninja hits a middle-rope headbutt on Horner for the pin! Quick win for the House of Humperdink!

WINNERS: Matt Borne & The Ninja

The House of Humperdink joins Bob Caudle. Sir Oliver Humperdink mentions Roddy Piper earlier on the show and said he didn’t take it as an insult because he knows Piper’s going through a lot. Borne says they mean business in the ring. Leroy Brown joins them and says Humperdink promised him gold and that is all he’s gotten since joining him. He warns Steamboat about standing in his way. He vows to make an example out of Steamboat. Borne says there is no room for egos just money in the House of Humperdink.

Humperdink says that they are going after everyone. He warns Jimmy Valiant. Humperdink also mentions that Brisco has a title that Piper wants but he also has other men in his group that would like that title.

SHOW THOUGHTS: Okay episode. Matches were just okay. The highlight was Roddy Piper’s promo and Sir Oliver Humperdink offering him a contract and Piper turning it down.
