Mid-South Wrestling 4/8/1983

Taped 3/30/1983 at the Irish McNeil’s Boys Club in Shreveport, Louisiana. Aired on 4/8/1983.

Boyd Pearce and “Cowboy” Bill Watts are on commentary. Watts mentions that Bundy wants referees to count to five for pin falls in all his matches. He also talks about the Mr. Olympia and Mr. Wrestling II angle. They recap the suitcase incident between the two.

That’s followed by a recap of the Mr. Olympia vs. The Junkyard Dog final for the North American Heavyweight title.

Mr. Olympia (w/ Gen. Skandor Akbar) vs. Tim Horner

Quick armdrag by Horner takes Mr. Olympia down to the mat. Mr. Olympia gets some words of encouragement from Akbar ringside. That seems to work as Mr. Olympia slams Horner and starts to beat him around the ring and toss him around. He drops Horner down to the mat again. Snapmare followed by a fist at Horner’s face.

Front facelock by Mr. Olympia. Horner tries to fight back but Mr. Olympia takes him down to the mat. Horner punches Mr. Olympia a few times. He whips him out of the corner but misses a dropkick. Mr. Olympia gets Horner with a backbreaker and goes for a pin but only gets two. Headbutt from Mr. Olympia. He tries for a pin on Horner but they are near the ropes.

Tim Horner fights back again! He knocks Mr. Olympia down to the mat. Horner whips Mr. Olympia into the ropes and backdrops him. He follows with a legdrop and a near fall. Mr. Olympia tosses Horner into the ropes and Tim falls down. He stomps on Horner and then whips him into the ropes and catches Horner with a sleeper hold for the win.

WINNER: Mr. Olympia

They recap the Hacksaw Duggan & Matt Borne vs. Tiger Conway Jr. & Mr. Wrestling II match from two weeks ago with Duggan turning on Borne and The Super Destroyer coming out to join Duggan in attacking Borne.

The Junkyard Dog vs. The Super Destroyer

The Super Destroyer and The Junkyard Dog exchange some forearms. JYD gets in some more punches on Super D and gets him in a chinlock. The Super Destroyer gets JYD in the corner but gets a whip reversed and JYD goes back on the attack and gets Super D in an armbar.

The Super Destroyer kicks and punches JYD. JYD catches Super D with a boot and knocks him down and gets him in a wristlock. He takes Super D down to the mat with an armbar. Super D reaches the ropes to break the hold but JYD instead whips him into the ropes. Super Destroyer catches JYD with a cross body block off the ropes but JYD quickly gets back in control of the match with an armbar.

Headbutts from The Super Destroyer but JYD counters with headbutts of his own. He misses one dropping to the mat. Super Destroyer beats on JYD and lands a knee across his head. Headlock by Super D. JYD fights back but The Super Destroyer cuts him off and maintains control of the match and takes JYD back down to the mat with a chinlock.

The Super Destroyer whips JYD into the ropes and catches him with a jumping high knee! JYD escapes the suplex attempt and catches him with a clothesline. He follows with the Thump powerslam and gets the pin on Super Destroyer!

WINNER: The Junkyard Dog

King Kong Bundy promo talking about wanting to wrestle Andre The Giant, The Junkyard Dog, Mr. Wrestling II and Butch Reed and not any punks in Mid-South Wrestling. He talks about being from Atlantic City and says none of these punks could last in that city. He says all those he named are going to see their end soon.

King Kong Bundy vs. John Davidson

King Kong Bundy gets in a couple of forearms to knock John Davidson down to the mat. He whips Davidson into the ropes and shoulder blocks him down. Bundy elbows Davidson and continues to beat on him. King Kong Bundy tosses Davidson into the corner and then whips him into the ropes and elbows him. He drops a knee across Davidson.

Bundy whips Davidson into the ropes and lands a kick at him. He punches Davidson. Another elbow across Davidson’s head. He whips Davison into the corner and splashes him in there. Bundy stomps on Davidson and then lands a splash! Referee counts three and is about to stop but Bundy tells him to count to five! Fans chant “Go Home Bundy”!

WINNER: King Kong Bundy

Kamala “The Ugandan Giant” & “The Black Ninja” Kendo Nagasaki (w/ Friday & Gen. Skandor Akbar) vs. Art Crews & Ron Ellis

Lots of additional gear to remove between Kamala and Nagasaki. Nagasaki and Art Crews start the match. Hard chops exchanged by both. Nagasaki kicks Crews and chops him again. Crews lands a forearm at Nagasaki and then whips him into the ropes but Nagasaki catches him with a kick. Nagasaki tags in Kamala.

Kamala with some chops at Crews. He jumps in the ring. Crews gets in one chop before Kamala lays in a few more at him. Nagasaki tags back in. Friday and Akbar have to tell Kamala when to get in and out of the ring. Nagasaki takes Ellis down. He tags in Kamala. Kamala lands two big splashes on Ellis and gets the pin.

WINNERS: Kamala & Kendo Nagasaki

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed vs. Kelly Kiniski

Kelly Kiniski quickly attacks Butch Reed but Reed makes a comeback and catches Kiniski with a pair of dropkicks! Reed whips Kiniski into the ropes and catches him with an elbow. He gets in a punch on Kiniski as well. Reed gorilla press slams Kiniski! Shoulder block off the ropes and he gets the pin on Kiniski! Quick win for Butch Reed.

WINNER: Butch Reed

SHOW THOUGHTS: Okay episode that seemed to be building up some of the newcomers to the territory and also the growing numbers in Gen. Skandor Akbar’s Devastation Inc. Akbar now has Mr. Olympia, Kamala, Kendo Nagasaki and King Kong Bundy in his stable. Matches were all pretty short as they aired a few recaps of storylines going on.
