Mid-South Wrestling 3/24/1983

Taped 3/16/1983 at the Irish McNeil’s Boys Club in Shreveport, Louisiana. Aired on 3/24/1983.

Boyd Pearce and “Cowboy” Bill Watts are on commentary.

They air a feature on Andre The Giant produced by Buddy Nichols. Andre The Giant is interviewed as well.

That’s followed by an interview conducted by Bill Watts with “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. They talk about the February 9th tag match between Andre The Giant & Tony Atlas against Ted DiBiase & Matt Borne which also had Hacksaw Duggan and Kamala get involved. Watts then mentions how the following week in an interview with the Rat Pack, Duggan asked DiBiase and Borne if they knew about Gen. Skandor Akbar and Kamala getting involved in the match because he wanted nothing to do with them. Watts then follows talking a match in Houston between Tony Atlas and Kamala with Duggan causing Atlas to lose the match.

Watts wants to know if Duggan is involved with Gen. Skandor Akbar. Duggan says he has nothing to do with Andre The Giant vs. Kamala and he is feuding with Tony Atlas. He tells Watts that he has nothing to do with Gen. Skandor Akbar and has his own personal reasons why he wouldn’t work with him. He says he wanted to get to Tony Atlas and no one else was involved. They show video of the match between Kamala and Tony Atlas with Duggan doing commentary.

Hacksaw Duggan also mentions that he has issues with Chavo Guerrero. Watts then asks Duggan what his thoughts are on the arrival of a newcomer to Mid-South Wrestling in a few weeks named “Hacksaw” Bruce Reed. Duggan gets upset and says there is only one person who has the right to be called “Hacksaw” and that’s himself and warns that Reed might have trouble getting off the plane.

They recap the situation between Mr. Wrestling II and Mr. Olympia including the altercation between the two over a suitcase that Mr. Wrestling II believes was Mr. Olympia’s and that he was the man behind the threats sent to II. They also re-air the interview with Mr. Olympia

“The Black Ninja” Kendo Nagasaki vs. Mike Jackson

Kendo Nagasaki catches Mike Jackson with a spin kick and goes on all-out attack mode on him with chops and kicks. He gets Jackson with a nerve hold. Jackson tries to escape but gets knocked down by a chop. Another comeback by Jackson with some rope-running that leads to him back dropping Nagasaki but Kendo is quickly back up and catches him with a kick to the mid-section.

Nagasaki goes for a nerve hold on Jackson. Jackson with a punch to the stomach to break out of the hold. Mike fights back and even catches Nagasaki with a pair of dropkicks. He then charges into the corner but Nagasaki raises his leg up and knocks him down. Nagasaki whips Jackson into the ropes and catches him with a thrust kick for the pin.

WINNER: Kendo Nagasaki

The Junkyard Dog vs. The Golden Dragon

Kendo Nagasaki enters the ring and again does his ceremony with his kendo stick. He and The Junkyard Dog threaten each other but again Nagasaki leaves the ring. The Golden Dragon throws a spin kick in the air. They lock-up but Dragon breaks cleanly. A second lock-up leads to a hard chop thrown by the Golden Dragon. JYD counters with a punch to the face.

Full nelson by The Junkyard Dog. The Golden Dragon escapes and tries to get JYD in the full nelson but JYD breaks the hold easily. Hard chop at the top of JYD’s head followed by a few punches. Dragon then goes for a nerve hold on JYD. JYD counters with a fireman’s carry takedown but Dragon is quickly back up and attacking him.

JYD catches The Golden Dragon with a forearm after Dragon went for his backflip out of the corner. Junkyard Dog then picks up the Dragon for the Thump powerslam for the pin.

WINNER: The Junkyard Dog

The Super Destroyer vs. Joe Stark

The Super Destroyer and Joe Stark with some wristlock reversals to start the match. Super D gets Stark in a side headlock and gets a knee into Stark’s back. Hair pull by Super D to take Stark down. Super D with a big forearm across Stark’s chest. He follows with some punches and a slam.

Super D chokes Stark on the middle rope. He follows with a knee drop across Stark’s head and then gets him in a reverse chinlock. Stark fights back with some punches thrown at Super D but he kicks him away and then climbs to the top rope and lands a big forearm at Stark. He goes back to choking Stark on the ropes while Stark’s nose bleed increases. Super Destroyer gets Stark up with a superplex and gets the win.

WINNER: The Super Destroyer

Mr. Wrestling II & Tiger Conway Jr. vs. The Rat Pack (“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan & Matt Borne)

Mr. Wrestling II and Matt Borne start the match. Super Destroyer shows up, takes a seat ringside. Mr. Wrestling II tosses Borne around the ring and knocks Duggan to the floor as well. Fans cheer on Mr. Wrestling II. Tiger Conway Jr. tags in and continues to work on Borne. Borne is able to tag in Duggan.

Duggan whips Conway Jr. into the ropes and Conway Jr. uses his agility to get Duggan with an armbar. Mr. Wrestling II back in and he gets a knee lift at Duggan’s left arm. Duggan whips Mr. Wrestling II into the ropes and Borne trips him up. Borne back in and he slams Mr. Wrestling II. He misses the Bombs Away drop off the top rope. Mr. Wrestling II tags in Conway Jr. and he takes down both Duggan and Borne.

Borne takes Conway Jr. into the ropes and whips him and catches him with a reverse elbow. Duggan tags in and he attacks Conway Jr. and gets him with a backbreaker. He follows with a knee drop for a near fall. Borne back in and he beats on Conway Jr. Knee across Conway Jr’s forehead gets Borne a two-count. Duggan tags back in and Conway Jr. gets him with an inside cradle for a near fall.

Borne and Duggan double-team Conway Jr. Duggan whips Conway Jr. into the ropes and elbows him. Borne tags back in and gets caught by a dropkick from Conway Jr. who quickly tags in Mr. Wrestling II. Mr. wrestling II whips Borne into the corner and catches him with a knee left. Duggan interferes and all four men brawl in the ring.

Borne sends Conway Jr. to the outside. Mr. Wrestling II catches Duggan with a knee-lift. Borne attacks Mr. Wrestling II. Conway Jr. gets back in the ring and argues with the referee. Borne holds Mr. Wrestling II and Duggan charges at him with the spear and instead hits Borne! Mr. Wrestling II with a knee lift at Duggan followed by a dropkick from Tiger Conway Jr. that knocks him to the outside. Mr. Wrestling II then gets Borne with a knee lift and covers him for the pin!

WINNERS: Mr. Wrestling II & Tiger Conway Jr.

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and The Super Destroyer join Bill Watts for an interview. They show a recap of what happened during the break between Duggan and Matt Borne. They argued and Duggan attacked Borne. The Super Destroyer then joined in and they beat on Borne.

Watts wants to know the reason Duggan attacked Borne and he said the reason was that the tag team titles were still with Mr. Wrestling II and Tiger Conway Jr. and that he and DiBiase had planned a way for them to win back those titles.

After bringing it up multiple times throughout the show, they didn’t air the midget tag team match this week.

SHOW THOUGHTS: Good episode with the first portion of the show recapping some of the stories that have been going on in Mid-South Wrestling. Duggan suddenly turning on Borne to close the show appears to be leading to the end of the Rat Pack. Matches were all kept pretty short.
