Taped 1/11/1978 at the Fieldhouse in Hamburg, Pennsylvania. Aired on 1/28/1978.

Vince McMahon is on commentary.

Tony Garea and a kid do a promo for juvenile diabetes.

“The Strongest Man In The World” Ken Patera (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) vs. S.D. “Special Delivery” Jones

S.D. Jones threatens to punch Patera so Patera backs away. Albano is arguing with the fans. Jones takes Patera down with a side headlock. Patera gets in a forearm to the side of Jones but Jones keeps the hold locked on. Albano complains about Jones using a choke on Patera. Patera whips Jones into the ropes and catches him with a knee across the face.

Ken Patera gets Jones in a choke hold on the mat. Referee checks to see if it’s a choke. Patera switched it over to a front facelock and starts hammering across Jones back. Jones makes a comeback and takes Patera back down to the mat with a side headlock. Patera escapes but is quickly taken back down into a side headlock.

Patera gets some knees into Jones mid-section near the ropes and then gets him in a headlock. He follows with a big forearm across Jones’ chest and goes back to a headlock. Jones with a few elbows into Patera’s ribs. He sends him into the ropes and punches him a few times. Jones dances a bit as he continues to fire away at Patera. He whips him into the turnbuckles and follows with a headbutt.

Jones off the ropes and shoulder blocks Patera down to the mat. He goes for a third attempt and Patera grabs him and tosses him to the outside. Patera stomps on Jones. Referee counts out Jones as he was unable to get back into the ring on time.

WINNER: Ken Patera

S.D. Jones headbutts Albano a few times before Patera attacks Jones from behind. Fans chant “We Want Backlund” at Patera.

Bob Backlund vs. Baron Mikel Scicluna

Baron Mikel Scicluna gets Bob Backlund in an armbar but Backlund quickly escapes. They lock-up again and Scicluna pulls Backlund’s hair to take him down and starts choking him. Backlund again quickly escapes. Scicluna with a side headlock and a thumb to the throat on Backlund.

Backlund recovers and goes to work on Scicluna’s left arm with a wristlock. He twists Scicluna’s arm. Scicluna tries to break the hold and is able to by shoving Backlund into the corner. Scicluna with a knee at Backlund. Backlund grabs onto Scicluna’s leg and takes him down. Backlund goes back to working on Scicluna’s left arm after regaining control of the match.

Scicluna with some eye gouges on Backlund. He tosses Backlund into the corners. Scicluna with a punch but Backlund knocks him down with a headbutt. He gets in a few forearms on Scicluna and then stomps on his face. They lock-up again and Backlund steps over and gets Scicluna with an armbar. He kicks Scicluna but Scicluna counters with a rake to the face. Scicluna whips Backlund into the ropes and catches him with a knee.

Scicluna body slams Backlund. He stomps on Backlund. He goes for a second body slam but Backlund catches him with a small package and gets the pin.

WINNER: Bob Backlund

Larry Zbyszko and Tony Garea are interviewed by Vince McMahon about their upcoming match against Larry Sharpe & Jack Evans. Garea is impressed with their opponents teamwork. Zbyszko talks about how sometimes individual wrestlers when put in a tag team they are able to complement each other’s style and form a good tag team. Zbyszko mentions how he and Garea have formed a good tag team because their styles complement each other and how he’s always been more of a singles wrestler going back to his amateur days.

Tony Garea mentions that there is a bit of a transition from wrestling one week in a singles match and the following in a tag team. McMahon mentions that this tag match has some title contender ramifications which Zbszyko agrees and mentions this match has importance on whether they’ll get another shot at the tag team titles.

Mil Mascaras vs. Jose Estrada

Clean break near the ropes by Mil Mascaras. They lock-up a second time and Mil Mascaras gets Estrada in a side headlock. They get near the ropes again but this time Estrada lays in a forearm before breaking away. Side headlock by Estrada but Mil Mascaras escapes and gets him down with an armbar. They get back to the ropes and Mil Mascaras cleanly breaks the hold.

Jose Estrada gets Mil Mascaras with a hammerlock. Mil Mascaras escapes. Back to a side headlock by Estrada but Mil Mascaras twists his way out of the hold and gets Estrada with a hammerlock of his own. Estrada reaches the ropes. Leg takedown by Mil Mascaras and again Estrada reaches the ropes. Headscissors by Mil Mascaras sends Estrada to the outside.

Jose Estrada gets back in the ring and punches Mil Mascaras several times. He beats on him in the corner and takes Mil Mascaras down with an armbar. Mil Mascaras flips Estrada over to escape. Estrada continues his attack. Mil Mascaras whips Estrada into the corner. He whips him into the ropes and backdrops Estrada. Mil Mascaras whips Estrada into the ropes and catches him with a dropkick. Gets Estrada with two more dropkicks before he gets Estrada in a submission hold to get the win over Estrada.

WINNER: Mil Mascaras

“The Iron Greek” Spiros Arion (w/ Freddie Blassie) vs. Frank Williams & Ted Adams in a 2-on-1 Handicap match.

Both men stay in the ring against Arion. They attack him together but Arion gets in a few punches on each. They punch him back but Arion keeps hammering away at both of them. Arion throws Adams to the outside and continues to beat on Williams. Arion grabs hold of Adams as he gets back in the ring and beats on him for a bit.
Williams makes the save for Adams and both beat on Arion who heads to the outside. Spiros Arion gets some advice from Blassie before returning to the ring. Arion beats on both his opponents. He slams Adams. Uppercut on Williams to knock him down. Arion tosses Adams back to the outside. Arion picks up Williams and places him on the corner upside down. Adams tries to make the save. Spiros Arion ties up Adams on the ropes. He bashes Adams and Williams heads together.

Spiros Arion continues to beat on Williams. Adams heads over to help his partner but he gets beaten up by Arion who removed the padding off the top corner and hammered both his opponents with it. He body slams both and lays them on top of each other to cover them for the pin.

WINNER: Spiros Arion

Larry Zbyszko & Tony Garea vs. “Dynamite” Jack Evans & “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe

Tony Garea and Jack Evans start the match. They lock-up and get in the corner and break cleanly. Garea and Evans go back and forth with a waistlock until Garea takes Evans down. Evans complains to the referee. Evans gets Garea into the corner and lays in a forearm. Garea reverses a whip into the corner and punches him. Garea with an elbow across Evans back and he takes him down with a side headlock.

Jack Evans escapes Garea’s grasp. Evans grabs hold of Garea and tags in Sharpe. Sharpe with some elbows on Garea and he snapmares him into a headlock. Garea gets back up to his feet and elbows his way out of the hold. He knocks Sharpe down one time but Sharpe gets in a knee into his mid-section. Sharpe stomps on Garea and gets him in an armbar.

Sharpe continues to dominate Garea and tags in Evans who lands a knee on Garea’s shoulder. Garea nearly tags in Zbyzsko but Evans quickly keeps him away. Wristlock by Evans. Garea with a nip-up and a reversal but Evans counters him. Hiptoss by Garea on Evans and he tries to tag Zbyzszko but Evans and Sharpe keep him from doing so.

Larry Sharpe beats on Garea and the crowd starts to cheer on Garea. Sharpe with some forearms across Garea’s arm. Elbow off the top rope by Evans at Garea’s left arm. Another quick tag by Evans to Sharpe. They double-team Garea as the referee gets distracted by Zbyzsko. Sharpe back in with some elbows on Garea. Crowd cheers louder for Garea. Sharpe pulls Garea by the hair. Garea with an armdrag on Sharpe but Sharpe is quickly back up on his feet and continues his attack.

Tony Garea powers up and fights back against Sharpe. He finally reaches over and tags in Zbyzszko who comes in on fire beating on Sharpe. Evans runs in to help his tag partner and Sharpe regains control of the match. Sharpe tags in Evans and he continues the attack on Zbyzsko with elbows and punches at Larry. He whips Zbyszko into the corner but gets reversed and Evans gets backdropped. Larry tags in Garea.

Tony Garea gets Evans with a dropkick. He tags in Zbyszko who backdrops Evans again. He then grabs hold of Evans arms and gets the pin as he places Evans shoulders on the mat for the win!

WINNERS: Larry Zbyszko & Tony Garea

SHOW THOUGHTS: Okay episode. Main event tag match was good. I liked the team of Evans and Sharpe and they were given the bulk of the match before Garea and Zbyszko made their comeback and won. Patera vs. S.D. Jones was okay as well.
